Why “traducement” is a great word
TRADUCEMENT — [Noun] The act of traducing; slanderous misrepresentation, the deliberate translation of character into caricature. From traduce (from Latin traducere, "to lead across, transfer, disgrace") + the noun-forming suffix -ment. Unlike "calumny," which names the specific, venomous lie, or "criticism," which can be a scalpel of fair assessment, traducement is the active, performative process of disgrace. It is the whispered campaign, the artful omission in a boardroom, the strategic leak to a columnist; a quiet violence that dismantles a person, piece by piece, until only a useful fiction remains. Ruin, it teaches us, is a relay race passed from one indifferent hand to another.
