surmiran
Etymology
Borrowed from Romansh surmiran, from the region Surmeir in Albula Valley. The placename is interpreted to mean "above the wall," from sur (“above”) (a derivative of Latin supra (“above”)) + meir (“wall”) (from Latin murus). There is no corresponding Swiss German name, which instead uses Mittelbünden.
