superexaltation

Etymology

From super- + exaltation.

Why this word is great

SUPEREXALTATION — [Noun] Supreme or excessive exaltation; the act of raising something or someone to an extreme height, whether in status, emotion, or reverence. From super- ("above, beyond") + exaltation ("the act of raising high"), ultimately from Latin exaltātiō ("elevation"). Unlike "aggrandizement" (which implies self-promotion or the accretion of power) or "megalomania" (which denotes delusional grandeur), superexaltation is the purest form of elevation—untainted by utility or pathology. It is the choir’s voices swelling toward the cathedral dome, the lover’s gaze fixed not on the beloved but on the idea of love itself, or the crowd hoisting a champion onto their shoulders until their grip falters. To superexalt is to reach for something beyond grasp, knowing the reaching is the point.
