Why “seership” is a great word
The office, function, or characteristic quality of a seer; the capacity for prophetic or spiritual insight. From seer ("one who sees, a prophet") + -ship (a suffix forming nouns denoting state, condition, or quality). First attested in 1784. Unlike prophecy, which is a specific utterance, or clairvoyance, which suggests a discrete psychic sense, seership is the mantle itself—the enduring state of being through which visions are received. It is the weight of the blind oracle’s robes, the distant focus in the shaman’s smoke-hazed eyes, and the solitary vigil kept beneath indifferent stars; not the flash of revelation, but the long burden of having to see.
