Why “quiescency” is a great word
QUIESCENCY — [Noun] A state of being quiescent; rest, stillness, or dormancy. From Late Latin quiescentia, from Latin quiescere ("to rest, keep quiet"), from quies ("rest, quiet"). Unlike "inactivity," which suggests a passive or imposed lack of action, or "stasis," which implies a rigid and sterile equilibrium, quiescency is a patient and potent stillness, latent and expectant. It is the dormant bulb beneath the winter soil, the great predator dozing in its den, and the held breath of an audience just before the curtain rises. It is not an end, but the fertile silence where the next beginning gathers itself.
