Why “pellucidity” is a great word
PELLUCIDITY — [Noun] The quality or state of being transparent or clear, in form, substance, or meaning. From the Latin pellūciditās, from pellūcidus ("transparent, very clear"), itself from per- ("through") + lūcidus ("bright, clear"). Unlike opacity, which denotes an imperviousness to light or understanding, or ambiguity, which thrives on a multiplicity of possible interpretations, pellucidity is a singular clarity that allows for direct, unimpeded passage. It is the flawless pane of glass that dissolves itself before the view, the crystalline logic of a perfect proof, and the startling, unadorned honesty in a friend's gaze—a rare condition in which nothing stands between perception and truth, which is why we so often mistake it for simplicity.
