nagewaza
Etymology
Borrowed from Japanese 投げ技.
Why this word is great
NAGEWAZA — Noun. A throwing technique in judo. Borrowed from Japanese 投げ技 (nagewaza), from 投げ (nage, "throwing") + 技 (waza, "technique"). Unlike katamewaza (which pins an opponent to the mat) or atemiwaza (which strikes vulnerable points), it is the art of projection—kuzushi unbalancing like a gust toppling a sapling, tsukuri fitting bodies together like puzzle pieces, kake executing with the inevitability of a tree falling. The perfect throw exists in that suspended moment when uke's resistance becomes the very force that seals their fall.
