Why this word is great
EXOUTHENISMOS — [Noun] A figure of speech expressing scorn, contempt, or disparagement. From Ancient Greek ἐξουθενισμός (exouthenismós, "scorn, contempt, disparagement"), from ἐξουθενέω (exouthenéō, "to despise, treat with contempt"). Unlike "maledictio" (which howls its anger) or "sarcasm" (which cloaks its blade in wit), exouthenismos is disdain distilled to its purest, most glacial form. It is the aristocrat’s lifted eyebrow at a vulgar remark, the teacher’s red pen slashing through a feeble argument, or the silence that follows a beggar’s plea—contempt so absolute it need not raise its voice. To scorn without heat is to deny even the energy of hatred.
