APEIROTHEISM — [Noun] The belief in the existence of an infinite number of gods. From Ancient Greek ἄπειρος (ápeiros, "infinite") + θεός (theós, "god"), modeled after terms like atheism and polytheism. Unlike "polytheism" (which stops at many) or "pantheism" (which dissolves divinity into nature), apeirotheism is a vertiginous cosmology of endless multiplicity. It is the uncountable stars each with their own divine custodian, the grains of sand on a shore each whispering a different prayer, the infinite library where every book is a scripture and every shelf a pantheon—a vision of the sacred so vast it borders on the absurd, or the sublime.
