From Latin allisiō (“striking or dashing against”) (whence -ion (“noun suffix denoting action, result, process, state, condition”)), from allīsus (“dashed or crushed against”), past participle of allīdō (“to dash or crush against”) (whence allide), from ad- (“to, toward, against”) + laedō (“to strike, collide, hurt”) (whence al- (“assimilated form of ad-”)).
